2027 Buick Encore GX: What’s New, What’s Changing, and What Stays the Same

The 2027 Buick Encore GX is not a redesign. It carries over the design from the 2024 refresh, and the biggest change is under the hood: every 2027 model now uses the 155-horsepower 1.3L turbo engine. Buick also streamlines the lineup for 2027, with fewer paint colors and fewer standalone options, so knowing what changed helps you find the right build. Whether you drive a 2026 Encore GX now or you are shopping for a small SUV in Greenfield and the Milwaukee area, this guide covers exactly what is different, plus what carries over.

For 2026, the front-wheel-drive Preferred used a 137-horsepower 1.2L turbo. For 2027, that engine is retired, and every Encore GX uses the 1.3L turbo three-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. Front-wheel-drive models pair it with a CVT, and all-wheel-drive models use a 9-speed automatic. If you were shopping the entry trim, that means more power without stepping up a trim level.

Buick is simplifying how the 2027 Encore GX is built, with a smaller color palette and more features grouped into packages. The trims themselves stay the same: Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir, each with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The 2026 Encore GX was offered in eight colors. For 2027, the palette narrows to three: black, white, and gray. If you have your heart set on one of the colors that did not return, 2026 inventory is your last chance.

On the 2026 Preferred, the Advanced Technology Package added adaptive cruise control, rear park assist, HD Surround Vision, and wireless charging. That package is no longer offered on the 2027 Preferred.

The Sport Touring keeps the Advanced Technology Package, but it now requires the Comfort Package. The Studio Series Package is discontinued, and the panoramic sunroof can no longer be added on its own.

On the Avenir, some packages that could be added individually in 2026 now must be ordered together.

The Encore GX keeps the look and cabin from its 2024 refresh, including the wide-screen dashboard display that combines the driver display and touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It still comes in Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir trims with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and it is still built at GM’s Bupyeong plant in South Korea. Standard Buick warranty coverage applies as usual (4 years or 50,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and 6 years or 70,000 miles on the powertrain).

Every 2027 Preferred now gets the 155-horsepower 1.3L turbo, including front-wheel-drive models that previously used the 1.2L. The Advanced Technology Package is no longer offered on this trim.

The sport-styled trim keeps the Advanced Technology Package, which now requires the Comfort Package. The Studio Series Package is gone, and the panoramic sunroof is no longer a standalone option.

The top trim continues with the 1.3L turbo and its premium cabin, and some of its packages now must be ordered together rather than individually.
